Handmade Cinema
I served as a teaching assistant for Handmade Cinema, taught by Tatsu Aoki, in Fall 2024 and 2025. This experimental filmmaking course challenges the notion that creativity depends on advanced equipment, exploring how images can be produced with the simplest tools. Students designed their own devices and experimented with techniques such as cameraless photography, time-lapse, pixilation, rephotography, and contact printing. They were encouraged to make cameraless films by painting, scratching, and chemically altering celluloid, creating tactile interventions into the material surface of film. I supervised, hand-processed, and scanned student projects, supporting their exploration of image-making beyond traditional filmmaking methods.
