What does losing control look like? During my residency at Ox-Bow in Michigan, I explored this question through a 35mm photography series. I invited participants to jump into the lagoon, capturing the precise moment just before their bodies touched the water. I wanted to document that ephemeral instant when people embrace vulnerability, surrender, and self-expression. All images were shot on a Nikon FM2 (or F3?), developed, and scanned by me on-site at the residency. Later, the photographs were projected publicly on a large outdoor screen, allowing participants to see themselves and each other in this shared act of letting go.
